Adjusting your driving style in any vehicle can further extend its range. Given the limited range of some electric vehicles, EV drivers can become more inclined to change. Here is a list of things that can be done to improve range.
Driving Style
- Let off the accelerator when no one is behind
- Only use second gear unless speed is needed
- Only use first gear when maneuvering in and out of parking spots, to avoid burning out the resistor
- Let the car roll on its own without accelerating or breaking as much as possible. (Similar, but do not confuse this with coasting or gliding)
- Give extra room to car ahead to avoid “break checks”
- Allow extra room to slow down
- Use alleys with less traffic and slower speeds
- Take the shortest route
- Change the vent positions to cool the motor
- Reduce usage of brakes
- Avoid keeping up with traffic going over the speed limit
External Options
- Walk the last mile to your destination
- Carry less cargo
