Door Latch Rod

The passenger side door does not open from the outside, when pressing in the door handles button. The door latch on the inside still works. Sometimes entering from outside does work, but then returns to being inoperable again.

Door rod missed lever

The panel on the inside of the door can be unscrewed to gain access to the rods inside. Upon inspection, I could see that the rod moves when pressing in the handles button. What I also noticed is that the rod was too low to press against a lever.

Using my fingers, I moved the rod up. The lever was being pressed. I closed the door and opened it, and it worked fine. Pressing the button a few more times resulted in the rod sliding down again, out of reach from the lever. The end of the rod is a round hemisphere. Once half of it goes below the lever, it’s forced all the way down.

Hack to keep rod from slipping
Bolt just under rod

There is a threaded bolt poking out just below the rod at a 90 degree angle. I was able to lift the rod up again and screw a piece of plastic around the bolts threads. It wasn’t holding well, but it was working. The next step is to look for a more permanent solution.
