Emergency Equipment

I keep a variety of items in the CitiCar in case I have any problems on the road.

Scissor Jacks

Scissor Jackks

I found that the CitiCar has a low profile that makes it difficult to get most jacks underneath of the vehicle. Scissor jacks have a low enough profile starting out that you can slide them under the cars axles easily. They are also lightweight and compact for easy storage.

I already had a scissor jack that came with another car, but found that constant use was difficult to extend and contract. I later purchased a pair of scissor jacks with a swivel-like hook and crank. Its a breeze to lift and lower the car quickly. Having an extra jack in the garage allows you to lift both the front or rear tires at the same time for better access to the undercarriage.

Lug Wrench

In any event that you need to take off your wheels and carry them to a tire repair shop, you need a way to remove those lug nuts. I keep a lug wrench (aka tire iron) in the back of my car. Some scissor jacks include a lug wrench built into the handle.

Fuses

Various AGC fuses

Never be left stranded due to a burnt out fuse. One of the first things I did when I purchased my CitiCar was to verify that all of the fuses were intact. Afterwards, I purchased a variety of AGC fuses at 10, 15, 20, and 30 amps.

I was unable to find these in my local auto parts store, but I did find them in a farm supply store.

Outdoor Extension Cord

You never know where you may run out of charge driving your car to new places. An extension cord comes in handy to run power from a standard 120v AC outlet at a long distance to your car.

Electric Monitor

Get a better understanding of your car by how much energy it consumes when it is recharging. My preferred power meter is the “Kill A Watt” meter that can also tell you the cost in electricity being consumed. This is how I calculate how much it costs me per mile driven to recharge the CitiCar. It can also help settle concerns people have when you ask to charge your car on their electric bill.

Communications Device

Whether it is a mobile phone, CB Radio, Walkie-Talkies, or using a mirror to send Morse Code signals, make sure you have a way to communicate and request assistance.

Wheel Chocks

Wheel Chocks help avoid the car from rolling away

Jacking up the car for repairs without the parking break engaged could cause the car to roll back. If the motor engages on its own, a set of wheel chocks on one of the tires when parked can help avoid costly situations. Just remember to remove them before you take off. I have a small set for small trailers and ATVs that collapse for easy storage.
